ZEN:DO BYO

open rope practice & open-space concept at the Zendo

Bring Your Own. Your ropes. Your evening. Your space.

.
We open our ZENDO and give you the space and time to spend the evening however suits you, because sometimes you don’t need a fully planned evening or a set theme. Sometimes you just want a space where you can tie.

That’s exactly what ZEN:DO BYOis for.

Whether you’re just starting out, practice regularly or have been working with rope for a long time: What matters isn’t how much experience you have, but whether you can make your own way in this open format and take responsibility.

ZEN:DO BYO is intentionally different from our classic ZENDO Rope Jam.

Unlike our classic ZENDO Rope Jam, we don’t add any extra structure to the evening. There’s no specially prepared setting, elaborate decoration or framework put together or hosted by us. This means we can keep the organizing simple and offer ZEN:DO BYO at a lower price. ZEN:DO BYO is deliberately more low-key, uncomplicated and functional—and the space can simply be a space.

If you’re in the mood for a relaxed evening with your ropes and don’t need the extra touches of our Rope Jam this time, ZEN:DO BYO is just the space you’re looking for.

At ZEN:DO BYO, we take the name literally: Bring Your Own.

Bring Your Own also means you decide what you need for your evening.

Along with your own ropes, please bring anything else you need for your rope practice. And bring something to eat and drink, too. The BYO principle applies to refreshments as well: there’s no catering or prepared food, so please bring your own. Everyone brings something for themselves, and if you like, something to share.

That keeps the evening relaxed and exactly what it’s meant to be: a space we provide for you to fill with life together.

Guidelines

We place great importance on consent and mutual respect. We foster a culture of open communication where everyone can clearly express their boundaries and wishes. All guests are expected to respect one another’s boundaries and wishes. Boundary violations or any other breach of explicit consent (only yes means yes) will not be tolerated. We recommend familiarising yourself with the F.R.I.E.S. model for more guidance.
By entering the event, you expressly agree to the house rules, code of conduct / netiquette, and the legal notices they contain, and undertake to comply with them. Remember, we all want to have a good time together and look out for each other. Anyone disrupting the event or disregarding the rules will be removed immediately and permanently!

#Waitlist means that we have reached the maximum number of guests for this event and can currently only confirm registrations if there are cancellations. Our experience shows, however, that people do cancel, especially during cold and flu season. We therefore recommend joining the waitlist anyway. If a spot opens up, you may be able to get a place at short notice. Just be patient!!!

Please understand that we also aim to maintain a balanced ratio.
Thank you!

ZEN:DO BYO FAQ

  • What exactly is ZEN:DO BYO, and how is it different from the ZENDO Rope Meetup?

ZEN:DO BYO is an open rope evening where we simply provide you with our space and the equipment available there.

At the ZENDO Rope Gathering, we make the evening a shared experience. This includes the special setting, atmosphere, decorations, and food and drinks provided by us.

BYO is therefore not a smaller version of the Rope Gathering, but an easy-going option for anyone primarily looking for a space to tie.

  • What does “BYO” mean in ZEN:DO BYO?

BYO stands for “Bring Your Own”... and we mean that quite literally.

Bring everything you need for the evening, including food and drinks. Instead of refreshments provided by us, there’ll be a shared potluck buffet.

  • Do I need to bring anything for the shared buffet?

We’d love it if you brought something to share at the potluck. It could be homemade, something from a bakery or supermarket, or simply something you enjoy eating and would like to share. It shouldn’t be an extra burden—just an easy way to make the evening something we create together.

  • What facilities can I use at ZEN:DO BYO?

Is ZEN:DO BYO suitable for beginners?

  • Does ZEN:DO offer BYO classes or workshops?

No. As with all our experiential events, there’s no instruction at ZEN:DO BYO. If you’d like to learn something specific, our workshops, RopeLabs or Kumite are a better fit.

  • Is ZEN:DO BYO the same as an open practice session?

That’s exactly what it’s about: our ZENDO is open for you to practice rope on your own. We just wouldn’t call it training in the traditional sense, because there’s no training plan, learning objective, or instruction. You decide whether you want to practice, experiment, or simply tie.

  • Do I need to bring a (rope) partner?

No. You're welcome to come with your regular rope partner, arrange to meet others, or drop by on your own. BYO is an open evening where plans can come together easily once you're there.

  • Is ZEN:DO BYO suitable for beginners?

ZEN:DO BYO is not a beginner course. You can attend with limited rope experience, but you should be comfortable making your own plans for the evening. If you’re taking your first steps in Shibari and would like some guidance, we recommend starting with a suitable workshop.

  • Can I just watch or chat at the BYO?

Of course. You don’t have to spend the whole evening tying. ZEN:DO BYO is an open evening where you decide how you’d like to spend your time. If you need a break, want to chat or simply watch others, there’s room for that too.

  • Why is ZEN:DO BYO cheaper than the rope meetup?

Because with BYO, we deliberately do less organising and preparation. We don’t create a special setting or decorate the space specifically for the evening, and we don’t provide food or an additional programme. This allows us to keep our costs down and pass the savings on to you.

  • AWARENESS & GUIDELINES
