K U M I T E | Open Shibari Practice
A place to keep learning
Facilitated Shibari practice in Schwieberdingen near Stuttgart and Ludwigsburg
A course or workshop can lay the foundations. But when you start practising, you often find that the real learning is only just beginning. It’s only when you pick up the ropes yourself again that you notice which movements feel secure, where you’re still unsure, and what questions come up through your own experience.
KUMITE gives you space to keep going from there—a supported training space with professional spotting, where you can put your existing knowledge into practice and deepen it. Here, you can revisit what you’ve learned, reinforce patterns, and practise your ties at your own pace. Together, we take the time to put technique and movement into practice.
What is KUMITE?
KUMITE (組手) is a term from Japanese martial arts meaning to practise with a partner. It involves putting what you have already learned into practice and developing it through your own experience. We apply this idea to our Shibari training.
KUMITE is an open, supported training format with no set lesson plan. You’ll have your own dedicated space to tie for the entire session and can decide what you’d like to work on. Bring your own questions and topics, or join a training focus that takes shape together in the room.
This is a chance to revisit material from previous courses and workshops, reinforce patterns, and practise your ties at your own pace. Use the training time to put your existing knowledge into practice and build on it.
Expert guidance at your side
You practise independently, with our experience and expertise there to support you. We’re present throughout the session and available if you have a question, want to take a closer look at a technique or need help putting it into practice.
When practising a movement repeatedly, it’s important to get it right from the start. What becomes ingrained through repetition eventually feels automatic—so it’s worth developing safe, technically sound habits early on. Our experienced eye can help you spot uncertainty in good time and keep inefficient movements from becoming habits unnoticed.
We explain how things fit together, offer practical tips and show you ways to refine techniques you’ve already learned. This helps you feel more confident applying them and develop a reliable sense of your ties.

Train safely and try something new
An important part of KUMITE is the safe, supportive setting in which you train. Our professional spotting provides additional safety and lets you practice more challenging ties under expert supervision.
This is especially valuable for suspension. Not everyone has the space or equipment at home to safely practice suspension ties. At KUMITE, you can use our fully equipped training space and continue developing your suspension practice with professional spotting.
Our Juku (Japanese 塾 | school) is available in its full size, complete with ring, bamboo, and Hashira. This gives you room to practice scenarios that would be difficult or impossible to recreate at home. Juku provides a safe setting where you can experiment and develop your practice.
Participant numbers are deliberately limited. This allows us to take into account everyone’s different experience levels and give you our full attention during training.

*DISCLAIMER*
⚡ KUMITE is a great way to deepen and reinforce the skills you already have through practice. This format is not a substitute for a basic course, lessons, or a workshop.
We recommend that complete beginners take an introductory or basic course first.
