Shibari workshops & in-depth exploration of specific topics

In-depth Shibari workshops for focused exploration of a specific topic.

In a RopeLab, we focus on a clearly defined topic and take the time to explore and teach it in a structured way and in the depth it deserves. This may mean looking more closely at familiar material, or exploring new techniques, patterns or subject areas.

Two formats, one shared standard.

RopeLab comes in two formats: Study Group and Deep Dive. Both focus on a specific topic and follow a clear structure. The main difference is how we work on it together.

.

1 | Study Group

In our Study Groups, we usually spend three hours exploring a specific topic together. We provide the framework and structure, introduce the relevant material, and then work on it together as a group. There’s time for questions, discussion and hands-on practice.

Study Groups are all about learning together: we explore the same topic as a group, share ideas and learn from each other’s questions and experiences.

2 | Deep Dive

A Deep Dive gives you more time to explore a topic in depth. We guide you through it in a structured way, building the material step by step so it’s easy to follow. The extended time allows for hands-on practice and more variations, which often get shortchanged in a standard course.

A Deep Dive can explore a topic you already know, or introduce a new tie, technique or area of study.

What topics are covered in RopeLab?

What all RopeLabs have in common is not a particular level or technique, but the intention to give a topic room to breathe rather than just touch on it. We can take a closer look at a single tie, work intensively on a technique, or explore a topic that doesn’t get enough time in our regular classes.

For example:

  • Rope patterns (e.g. hands-in-front or chest-free harnesses)
  • Technical fundamentals
  • Positioning and body mechanics
  • Floorwork
  • Suspension
  • Transitions / kata / transitions
  • Aesthetic aspects
  • Movement and tension
  • Specific Shibari concepts/styles

Who is RopeLab for?

RopeLab is for people who want to develop their Shibari knowledge and skills in a focused way and explore a particular topic in depth. The prerequisites vary by topic, so they’re listed for each RopeLab. You don’t need to have mastered every detail of the topic already. What matters is that your fundamentals meet the stated requirements. It’s worth taking a look at the individual event listing: it explains exactly what the session covers and what experience you should bring.

RopeLab FAQ

  • What is KUMITE | Open Shibari Practice?

An open practice session where participants can practice independently. We’re on hand as teachers and instructors to offer feedback and answer questions—without a fixed lesson plan.
  • RopeLab or KUMITE?

RopeLab focuses on a topic we choose.

At KUMITE, you bring your own questions and topics. You work on your personal practice with our guidance and feedback.

So if you already know what you’d like to work on, KUMITE is probably the better fit. If you’d like to explore a specific topic, RopeLab is the workshop for you.

  • Are you teaching or instructing?

There is no ongoing instruction—we’re here to offer support. At our open Shibari practice, you can benefit from our expertise and get knowledgeable tips and individual guidance to help you safely practice and refine your patterns. Our Kumite offers a safe, supportive environment where your creativity and personal growth can flourish.

  • Who is KUMITE for?

For people with some basic Shibari knowledge. We recommend that complete beginners attend an introductory course first.

  • What can I learn?

You decide what you train. We're happy to suggest areas to focus on, based on your current level.

  • Do I need a partner?

Training with a partner is much more effective, but individuals can also take part. Especially when you’re just starting out, there’s plenty you can practise on your own.

  • PRICING

    Regular ticket: €55

    Supporter ticket: €70

    Community ticket: €40

What do the different ticket types mean?

We see our events as an opportunity to explore (risk-aware) kinky play responsibly, rather than relying on the often incomplete or misleading information available online. We therefore aim to balance accessible prices with fair compensation for everyone involved (instructors, etc.). We’ve chosen a pricing model designed to make high-quality knowledge accessible to as many people as possible:

The REGULAR ticket covers our costs.

The COMMUNITY ticket is for people on a low income, giving them the opportunity to attend our events.

We warmly invite those with higher incomes to support others by choosing a SUPPORTER ticket and paying a little more. Together, we can help people with very limited financial means take part in our events.

Every Supporter ticket sold makes a Community ticket possible. Thank you in advance for your solidarity.

(The first Community ticket is funded by SakuraRope.)

We trust our considerate community, so please choose your ticket price based on your own assessment of what you can afford.

*I can’t afford a ticket but would love to join. What can I do?

    >> Don’t hesitate to email us at mail@sakura-rope.de. We’ll see what we can do. There are usually options, such as paying in smaller installments.

  • Equipment:

Do I need to bring my own equipment? Yes, everyone is responsible for bringing their own personal rope gear. Participants in our Basic Course can borrow ropes. 👗Dress code: Comfortable, sporty clothes or “play-friendly” clothing, such as a playful dress. Bring a pair of thick socks and, if needed, a blanket for the theory session. 🙏 Tying mat: Please bring a mat, such as a yoga mat. Please understand that we can’t guarantee space for large tatami mats or two tatami mats side by side.
