Takate Kote
& Gote

Only 1 spot left!
🚀 Level: upper beginner and up
The Takate Kote is one of the best-known patterns in Shibari and an important foundation for many riggers as they explore more advanced applications. At the same time, the Takate Kote / Gote is one of the most versatile upper-body ties. It’s a complex structure not only for the person tying, but can also be a challenging tie for the model.
But there is no single “one true” TK or Gote. As Shibari has evolved, many different structural approaches have emerged, with variations in rope paths, force distribution and tension across different styles. Each can suit different bodies and situations.
That’s why it’s worth learning more than one sequence. Different approaches and adaptations can help you tailor a Takate Kote to different people and pairings.
The TK Deep Dive combines patterns with a structural understanding of the ties. Together, we’ll look at, analyse and work through different construction principles for Takate Kote and Gote, exploring the qualities and possibilities each structure offers. We’ll also consider how to account for different physical needs and characteristics.
We’ll explore different approaches and adaptations, and the thinking behind different structures. The focus is on understanding how each construction is put together, what qualities it offers, and the situations — or models / ukete — it may be best suited to.
✅ Focus areas:
This workshop combines a solid grounding in the fundamentals with plenty of hands-on practice.
We’ll make time for review, questions and individual feedback.
Topics include:
- typical design choices in different styles
- comparing different construction principles (e.g. T-Shape vs. V-Shape; stemless constructions vs. styles with a central stem)
- adjustments for individual bodies (shoulder mobility; hand positions)
- balancing stability, comfort and function
- active bottoming as a preventative part of the tie
- the third rope as a structural element
⚠️(*) Content is adapted to the group’s level and pace of learning.
👉 Who it’s for:
This workshop is for people who already regularly work with TK/Gote, as well as those looking to take the next step after a fundamentals course. If you’re working towards suspension, this workshop can help you build on your skills.
It’s also especially valuable for riggers who regularly work with different rope partners and want to get better at choosing the right structure, rather than tying a familiar pattern every time. For models who regularly work — or hope to work — with different riggers, a better understanding of the different TK/Gote options can help you develop and adjust your personal risk profile.
⚡Who is this workshop for?
➡️ For Riggers the workshop is a good fit if you’d like to:
- develop your existing practice
- expand your repertoire of structural approaches and explore or compare different ones
- better account for different bodies and anatomical needs, and tailor your ties accordingly
- better understand tension, force distribution and structural choices
- build confidence for more advanced applications, such as suspension
- gain a deeper understanding of your Takate Kote as the foundation for progressing towards suspension
➡️ For Models / Ukete:
As a model, this workshop is a chance to become more aware of your body and your experience with Takate Kote, and to deepen that experience. If you’ve had difficult experiences with the classic TK position, we encourage you to join us. We’ll share individual approaches and ways to make it easier to get into and hold this position.
You can learn:
- why different structures can feel different
- what factors affect whether a Takate Kote works well for your body
- how different physical needs can be taken into account
- how to better understand and communicate your own sensations.
🚀
Level:
upper Beginner and higher
This workshop builds on basic experience with Takate Kote/Gote. It does not teach upper-body bondage fundamentals and isn’t an introductory TK/Gote course. We assume you have basic knowledge so we can focus together on adapting, comparing and developing different structures.
(If you’re unsure whether your experience is sufficient, feel free to contact us.)
As an active participant; Rigger; Shibarite you have:
- completed a basic workshop or have comparable foundational skills (SCT, frictions, rope handling & tension, etc.)
- some practical experience and structural knowledge of upper-body ties with the hands/arms positioned behind the back
- smooth, steady rope handling
- an interest in analysis, discussion and structural understanding
- basic safety and anatomy knowledge, and have discussed your own and your model’s risk profiles (how much risk am I willing to take, how much risk is my model willing to take, where do we meet, and what agreements apply in a workshop setting)
As a bottom/receiving partner; Model; Ukete:
- you have no anatomical or muscular impairment that prevents you from bringing your hands/arms behind your back — your flexibility (how far you can bring your arms back) is irrelevant
- you have an initial sense of your physical and mental risk profile and your body’s limits in relation to potential hazards such as nerve damage or fainting
- you have discussed your risk profile with your rope partner
@ everyone:
- everyone involved should be familiar with the basic safety rules and risks of Shibari.
⚠️This workshop is designed for pairs (gender, sexual orientation and body shape don’t matter — we stand for tolerance and diversity!).
➜ The content is extensive and offers a wealth of information and a challenging learning curve. Therefore, switching between active and passive roles is not allowed.
