General FAQs:
Can I only join your events as part of a couple, or can I come on my own?
You can also attend the ROPE MEETUP on your own.
We also offer a few courses (Kickstart) for individuals.
As a rule, however, participation in our WORKSHOPS, MODULE COURSES, etc. requires you to come as a pair—that is, to bring a rope partner.
(clear-cut role model, no switching)
The SakuraRope InfoChanel (Telegram group) is a place to connect with potential rope partners. The channel is for everything related to SakuraRope and Zendo events, including finding rope partners. Please note, however, that this isn’t a general meetup group; it’s specifically for people looking for partners for SakuraRope events.
CHECK-INS: If you’d like to meet for the first time in our space, feel free to let us know if you’d like someone to check in on you regularly to make sure everything is okay and you feel safe.
What should I wear for tying?
... comfortable/stretchy clothing is best for rope, and you should feel comfortable in it. For the bottom, close-fitting clothing is best, and models who are read as female should avoid underwire bras.
Yoga or sportswear is ideal.
For courses and workshops, wear comfortable, flexible clothing that’s suitable for moving around and sitting on the floor. Jeans, belts and underwire bras aren’t recommended, and very loose or bulky clothing can sometimes be difficult to tie. The studio is a shoe-free space, so comfortable warm socks can be nice to have for the theory sessions and especially during the winter months.
It can be helpful to bring something warm, such as a blanket, to use before and after tying.
Do I need to bring my own ropes, or can I borrow some?
If you don’t have your own rope, you can borrow ropes made by different manufacturers and from different materials for beginner classes or rope meetups (floor ties only).
For advanced courses or any type of suspension, participants must bring their own rope and other equipment.
Is there anything else I should bring?
Please bring a mat to class and to rope gatherings. Yoga or exercise mats work well. A blanket can also be useful as an extra layer, and a cushion can make sitting on the floor more comfortable.
Drinks & snacks are included with lessons and courses/workshops.
We’re also available at the tying meetup for a small donation.
Can I just drop by?
No—participation is only possible with advance registration and confirmation, or by appointment.
Do I need any tying experience?
Not at all!
Our rope meetups are designed to give both beginners and more advanced participants the opportunity to learn new things. We offer workshops where you can learn the basics.
What safety precautions are important?
Safety and consent are our top priorities! We recommend making clear agreements using the FRIES Consent Model. We also cover the basics of rope safety and responsible interaction with one another with participants at our RopExchange.
Our suspension points have been statically tested, and all equipment is carefully maintained and regularly replaced.
Is there a fee to participate?
You can find the cost in the event description.
Arrival times: Can I arrive early or late?
For classes, courses and workshops, doors open 15 minutes before the event starts.
Early entry is not possible, and the doorbell is switched off so as not to disturb the class before yours! Exceptions can be arranged in advance.
Late entry to lessons and workshops is not permitted, and the full amount will be due under §7 of our Terms and Conditions!
Waitlist – Do I still have a chance to attend?
#Waitlist means that we’ve reached the maximum number of guests for this event, so booking confirmations are currently only possible if someone cancels. In our experience, though, people do cancel from time to time, especially during cold and flu season. So we recommend joining the waitlist anyway. If a spot becomes available at short notice, you’ll have a chance to get it. Just be patient!!!
Please understand that we also aim to maintain a balanced ratio.
Thank you!
Why is it taking so long to process my enquiry / registration?
It may occasionally take us a little while to respond to your inquiries, as we organize everything personally and with great care. We believe every inquiry deserves the attention it needs—instead of standardized processes, we offer genuine, personalized support.
Sakura Rope is a side business alongside our full-time jobs. That’s exactly what allows us to work with care, calm and passion—without pressure, and with quality at the heart of what we do.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. Both help us show up for you in a way that feels right to us: attentive, responsible, and personal.
Rope Meetup FAQ:
What is a Rope Jam?
A rope meetup is a gathering and space to share experiences, similar to a (play) munch, where people with a shared interest in rope bondage come together. It’s a chance to connect with like-minded people, make time and space for rope practice, games, and socializing without formal instruction or a set program, and gain new experiences in a safe and respectful environment.
To accommodate these different ways of participating, please keep noise to a minimum (except for the natural sounds that arise during rope play, which are welcome). Please keep conversations to the lounge area and loud conversations to the hallway.
What can I expect from a rope meetup?
Look forward to a warm, welcoming atmosphere where you can meet new people, discover exciting ties, and enjoy open conversation—there’s something for everyone!
Who can attend a Rope Social?
Everyone interested in rope bondage is warmly welcome! Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced practitioner, our meetups are open to anyone who’d like to learn more about this fascinating subject.
Are only couples allowed, or can I come on my own?
You’re just as welcome to come on your own as you are as a couple or with a friend!
It’s always nice to bring someone along and explore the world of rope bondage together—but having a rope partner isn’t a requirement to take part. People often pair up at the event, too, if you just ask. You’re not making any commitment by dropping by, so make yourself comfortable and enjoy the evening.
Do I need any tying experience?
No, not at all! Our rope meetups are designed to give both beginners and experienced practitioners the chance to discover new things. We offer workshops where you can learn the basics.
How often do rope jams take place?
Our rope gatherings take place regularly, usually on the last Saturday of each month. The exact dates can be found on our website.
Is there a fee to participate?
The Rope Meet-up costs €20 per person.
If you’d like to join the RopExchange, there’s an additional €5 per person.
Snacks are included. A small contribution toward drinks is requested via the donation box.
What should I wear for tying?
Dress at rope meetups and parties can be varied. Some people opt for simple, comfortable clothes; others prefer to dress up, while others still choose lingerie or very revealing outfits. All of this is welcome, but none of it is expected or required.
... for tying, comfortable/stretchy clothes are ideal, and you should feel at ease in them. Yoga or workout clothes work well.
Arrival times: Can I arrive early?
RopExchange:
Doors open 6:15–6:30 p.m.
Rope meetup:
Doors open from 7:30 to 8 p.m.
Early entry is not possible, and the doorbell is switched off. We’ll be busy with organisational matters right up until the last minute to make sure you have a great experience!
Late entry to the RopExchange isn’t possible; please wait until the rope meetup opens. If you’re running late for the rope meetup, please contact us in good time so we can arrange a separate entry and avoid disrupting the event.
What safety precautions are important?
GuidelinesSafety and consent are our top priorities! We recommend making clear agreements using the FRIES Consent Model. We also cover the basics of rope safety and responsible interaction with one another with participants at our RopExchange.
Our suspension points have been statically tested, and all equipment is carefully maintained and regularly replaced.
General Workshop FAQs & Lessons:
Who are your workshops for?
Our workshops are primarily designed for couples. You don’t have to be in a committed relationship to attend together. Mutual consent, openness, and a willingness to take responsibility for yourselves are what matter.
Participation is open regardless of gender, relationship status, or prior experience.
Our spaces are welcoming to queer identities, different body types, all age groups and neurodivergent people. Diversity is a given for us.
Many formats are suitable for beginners, while others require some prior knowledge. The event description will help you decide.
Do I need any prior experience?
No, not for our beginner sessions.
We guide you step by step through technique, mindset, communication and safety.
Advanced workshops build on existing skills. We’ll note in the workshop description if you’re expected to have a firm grasp of specific techniques.
What matters to us: Nobody has to be “perfect”. Learning should be clear, relaxed and at your own pace.
What should I expect from a workshop, course or private lesson?
In all our class formats, we combine technique with body awareness, communication and responsibility.
Technique is the foundation—but it doesn’t stand alone. It’s not just about “learning knots”; it’s about presence, connection and relating to one another mindfully.
We teach in a structured, easy-to-follow way, with plenty of room for questions. At the same time, we create an atmosphere where you can learn at your own pace.
What happens in a private lesson?
Private lessons are tailored to your needs. Beforehand, we’ll discuss your wishes, experience level, and goals—whether you want to deepen your technique, focus on safety or dynamics, or explore specific topics. We’ll arrange dates to suit you.
In our experience, three- to four-hour sessions are ideal for exploring a subject in depth.
How big are the groups?
We intentionally keep our groups small.
This allows us to offer individual guidance, corrections and answers to questions. Quality and safety come before group size.
What happens in a typical class / workshop?
Each workshop starts with a group Q&A: prior experience, questions about the previous lesson, etc.
This is followed by demonstrations and step-by-step instruction. We explain techniques clearly and break them down into manageable steps. Then you can practise at your own pace while we offer guidance, corrections and answers to your questions.
There will be time for breaks, conversation and integration.
We believe learning should come from focus and presence, not pressure.
Depending on the format, there may also be time for reflection or brief discussions about communication and dynamics.
How much does a workshop or private lesson cost?
Prices vary depending on the format and duration.
You can find all current prices in the relevant event listing.
For questions about tailored sessions or longer-term support, feel free to message us—we’ll discuss everything transparently beforehand.
Private lessons are €75 per hour.
Do I need to bring my own equipment?
🪢 We usually provide ropes for beginner workshops. If you have your own ropes, you’re of course welcome to bring them.
For advanced formats, you’ll need to bring your own equipment—details are in each description.
How important is safety to you?
Very.
Safety, consent, and communication are the foundation of our work. We teach more than technique—we also teach responsibility, both for yourself and for one another.
We reserve the right to exclude participants who do not share our fundamental values of respect and consent.
What language are your classes taught in?
Group classes are generally taught in German.
Private lessons are also available in English.
How does registration work?
✔️ Please use the relevant registration form to sign up.
Since we run Sakura Rope alongside our full-time jobs, it may sometimes take us a little while to reply—but we’ll always get back to you personally.
Is there a safe, private space?
🚀 Yes.
We see our workshops as a mindful learning space. Discretion, mutual respect, and the freedom to maintain your own boundaries go without saying.
Queer identities, diverse relationship styles, and neurodiversity are welcome.
Rope Taster FAQ:
PRICING 'Rope taster'
Regular ticket: €85
Supporter ticket: €110
Community ticket: €60
- all prices incl. VAT -
What do the different prices mean?!
We see our events as an opportunity to engage responsibly with (risk-involved) kinky play, rather than relying on the often incomplete or misleading material found on the World Wide Web. We therefore strive to balance accessible prices with fair compensation for everyone involved (instructors, etc.). That’s why we’ve chosen a pricing model designed to make high-quality knowledge accessible to as many people as possible:
The REGULAR ticket price covers our costs.
With our COMMUNITY ticket, we want to give people on low(er) incomes the opportunity to attend our events.
We warmly invite those with the means to support others by choosing the SUPPORTER ticket and contributing a little more. This helps us make our offerings accessible to people with limited financial resources.
For every Supporter Ticket sold, a Community Ticket will be made available. We’d like to thank you in advance for your solidarity.
(The first Community Ticket is funded by SakuraRope.)
We trust our thoughtful community, so please choose your ticket price based on your own assessment.
*I can’t afford the ticket, but I’d still like to take part. What can I do?
>> Feel free to email us at mail@sakura-rope.de. We’ll see what we can do. There are usually options, such as paying in smaller instalments.

Basic Course FAQ:
What is the Basic Course?
📍The Basic Course is our structured fundamentals series for anyone who wants to do more than just try Shibari and learn it in depth.
Unlike one-off beginner workshops, the Basic Course runs over multiple sessions. Each session builds on the last, helping you develop a lasting understanding of technique, safety and mindset.
It’s suitable for anyone who wants to learn Shibari thoroughly, safely, and step by step from the ground up.
Who is the Basic Course for?
This course is for:
🎯 ️Beginners with no prior experience
🎯 ️People who have already attended a Taster or Kickstart Workshop
🎯 ️Couples who want to build a solid foundation together
🎯 ️Individuals with a regular practice partner
As the course is based on continuity, regular attendance is required.
Our spaces welcome queer identities, diverse relationship styles and neurodivergent people. Respect and consent are essential.
What’s the difference between the Basic Course and Kickstart or Taster Workshops?
👉 In short:
The Basic Course isn’t a taster session, but a structured and in-depth learning journey.
Basic Course
✔️ Multiple sessions that build on each other
✔️ Structured skills development
✔️ More time for review, integration and questions
✔️ Sustainable development of technique & safety
Kickstart / Taster Workshops
✔️ Single session
✔️ Getting Started
✔️ Accessible introduction
✔️ Focus on getting to know each other and an introduction to the fundamentals
What happens if I miss an appointment or can’t attend?
🧩 We’re committed to providing thorough, responsible instruction—and that takes consistency. The Basic Course is modular, with each module building on the last.
📅 If you can’t attend a session, you’ll need to make up the corresponding module before attending the next course session. This is the only way we can ensure that safety, technical understanding and group cohesion are maintained.
The course fee for the booked module is payable in full, regardless of attendance.
Any missed module can be made up or reviewed in a one-to-one private lesson, scheduled separately within the period before the next module. An additional fee applies.
If several people want to make up the same module during the same period, the hourly rate may be reduced accordingly.
Please note:
If you don’t make up a module, you won’t be able to continue with the current course series for instructional and safety reasons. In this case, the relevant terms and conditions apply.
Do I need to bring my own ropes?
🪢 YES AND NO
Ropes in different materials will be available for the first part of the workshop, so you can try out different textures and styles.
We also recommend bringing your own ropes, as you’ll be working with your familiar gear over several sessions and should practise between sessions too.
If you don't have your own ropes yet, we're happy to advise you beforehand.
How large is the group?
⚖️ We keep participant numbers deliberately limited.
This allows us to offer individual guidance, corrections and answers to questions. Quality comes before group size.
How physically demanding is the course?
🌿 The course starts with basic positions and gradually builds from there.
🌿It’s not about pushing the body to extremes, but about working with control and awareness—and directly with the body and its joints.
That’s why body manipulation is also part of the course: consciously guiding, positioning, and aligning the body in space and within a structure. It’s not about demonstrating strength, but about understanding leverage, angles, stability, and safe joint alignment.
We start with the fundamentals and gradually increase the intensity and complexity. Some positions may nevertheless require strength, flexibility, and core control—for both the person tying and the person being tied.
Important:
🧘honest self-assessment
🧘Communicating boundaries in good time
🧘 Willingness to slow down
Nobody has to “push through.” Your safety and bodily integrity always come before ambition or aesthetics.
What should I bring?
👉 Openness and curiosity
👉 Comfortable clothing
👉 Yoga mat
👉 Blanket (thick socks if needed / shoe-free zone)
👉 Your questions! 🌟
All other materials are available to use on-site or will be provided. (Drinks and snacks included)
Suspension FAQ:
What does “suspension” mean in the context of the workshop?
Suspension means partially or fully lifting a person off the ground using ropes and secure suspension points.
This puts significantly greater forces on the body, joints, and equipment than floorwork. This means higher demands on technique, precision, and safety awareness.
We work in a controlled, progressive, and clearly structured way—not for spectacle, but with care and responsibility.
Who is the suspension course suitable for?
The Suspension Workshop is for advanced participants with a solid foundation.
Requirements:
🎯 ️Confident SCT, frictions and TK (suspension-ready)
🎯 ️clean rope handling
🎯 ️anatomical understanding
🎯 ️Experience working systematically on the ground
Suspension is not for beginners. If you don’t yet have a solid foundation, you should take our Basic Course first.
What safety aspects are covered?
👉 Suspension isn’t a technique you can do “by feel.” It takes structure, experience and a clear assessment of risk. That’s why safety is central to our suspension workshop.
We cover topics including:
✔️Suspension points and load capacity
✔️Rope inspection
✔️ Load distribution in practice
✔️Safe progression from the ground to the air
✔️Redundancies
✔️Emergency Plans
✔️quick release under tension
How large is the group?
⚖️ We deliberately keep the group small—even smaller than in the Basic Course!
Suspension requires close support and constant supervision. We make sure every suspension is supervised.
How physically demanding is suspension?
🌿 We work in a controlled, progressive way—not for spectacle, but with care and responsibility. That said, suspension is physically demanding for both roles.
We work with:
✨Weight Transfer
✨Leverage
✨ Pressure distribution under load
✨targeted joint positioning
✨active muscle engagement
Body manipulation is an integral part: consciously guiding, stabilising and positioning the body is key to safety and resilience.
For the model, suspension means:
🧘increased pressure (restricted blood flow and possible nerve compression)
🧘longer static positions
🧘intense joint angles
🧘high muscle tension
For the person tying:
🛠️Strength control
🛠️ proper load distribution
🛠️technical precision
🛠️constant attention
A good level of general fitness, stable joints, and the ability to communicate warning signs immediately are essential.
Are there any health requirements?
⚠️ Yes.
Suspension is not suitable for:
🤲 acute shoulder or joint injuries
🤲 unstable disc problems
🤲unexplained neurological symptoms
🤲 acute cardiovascular problems
🤲 Please take time to honestly assess any chronic or past injuries beforehand and discuss them with us.
We do not replace medical advice.

🧩 We’re committed to providing thorough, responsible instruction—and that takes consistency. The Basic Course is modular, with each module building on the last.

Please note:
If you don’t make up a module, you won’t be able to continue with the current course series for instructional and safety reasons. In this case, the relevant terms and conditions apply.
Do I need to bring my own ropes or suspension equipment?
🪢 ROPES
Yes. You’ll need to bring your own suitable ropes to take part in the Suspension Workshop.
Suspension puts the ropes under load. That means material quality, condition and preparation are safety-critical. Ropes must be suitable for load-bearing use, well-maintained and free of damage.
Other useful equipment may also come in handy. That’s why the first part of the workshop covers the equipment you need and how to use it safely.
You’re welcome to try out different gear with us before buying your own.
It’s important to us that you don’t just “take part”, but understand what you’re working with. Suspension requires a mindful approach to equipment, physical strain and responsibility.
If you’re unsure whether your existing equipment is suitable, please check with us beforehand—we’ll give you honest, safety-focused advice.
